Administrative HistoryBanff Harbour Trust was constituted under the 1840 Banff Municipal and Police Act (see AS/Bbnf/16/6/5) to administer the burgh's harbour; prior to 1840, the harbour was under the control of the Town Council. The Trustees consisted of the Provost, Bailies, and Dean of Guild representing the Council, with six additional Trustees elected annually - four by the burgh's shipowners, and two by traders. The Harbour Trust gained an additional Harbour Order in 1895 to levy dues on the fish landed and exported at Banff; this was to pay for the cost of removal of mud from the harbour basin. An additional Harbour Order was granted in 1911.
