TitleBanff Burgh: Head Court Book
DescriptionMinutes of meetings of the Head Court, which met annually at Michaelmas to agree the level of cess required. (No meeting was held at Michaelmas 1745 because of the Jacobite rebellion; the level of cess was approved in May 1746.) The entry for Michaelmas 1764 includes a detailed estimate of the amount of cess required. Each Head Court minute includes lists of heritors and burgesses present and absent. 6 Apr 1737 - 3 Nov 1764

In some years, the Head Court also met again - usually at Easter - to discuss other matters:

Easter 1738 - petition to inclose and improve Gallowhill

Easter 1749 - defence of a process brought against the Town by the Earl of Findlater

Jan 1753 - feuing Lord Banff's old lodging at the Cross
Oct 1753 - act anent bringing water to the Cross in pipes
