| Administrative History | The Banff Lieutenancy was formed in 1794. Until 1871 the Lord Lieutant had the duty of raising and organising militias in the county. The role is now an honorary position, as representative of the monarch in the lieutenancy area. They are supported by deputy lieutenants. |
