Administrative HistoryThe parishes were arranged in 20 School Management Areas 1919 - 1930 under the Education (Scotland) Act 1918. The original list contained 21 areas (Education Authority Minutes 1919-20, 29 April 1919) but it was amended (22 May 1919) by joining area 12 (Crathie and Braemar) with area (Glenmuick Tullick & Glengairn) which reduced the total to 20.

Areas:
1. Crimond (except part of parish in School Board district of Kininmonth), Longside (except part of parish in School Board districts of Ardallie and Kininmonth), Peterhead (parish and Burgh) and St Fergus
2. New Deer (except part of parish in School Board districts of New Byth and Savoch), Old Deer (except part of parish in School Board districts of Ardallie and Kininmonth), Strichen (except part of parish in School Board districts of New Pitsligo and Kininmonth) and Tyrie (including School Board district partly in Aberdour, New Deer and Strichen parishes).
3. Aberdour, Fraserburgh, Lonmay, Pitsligo and Rathen.
4. Auchterless, Fyvie, King Edward, Monquhitter, Turriff.
5. Cairnie, Clatt, Drumblade, Forgue, Gartly, Glass, Huntly, Kennethmont, Rhynie.
6. Cluny, Kemnay, Midmar, Monymusk.
7. Alford, Auchindoir & Kearn, Keig, Leochel Cushnie, Tough, Tullynessle & Forbes.
8. Glenbuchat, Kildrummy, Strathdon, Towie
9. Culsalmond, Insch, Leslie, Oyne, Premnay, Rayne
10. Chapel of Garioch, Inverurie (including Burgh), Keith-hall and Kinkell and Kintore (including Burgh).
11. Bourtie, Daviot, Meldrum (including the Burgh of Oldmeldrum).
12. Crathie and Braemar, Glenmuick Tullich and Glengairn (including the Burgh of Ballater).
13. Logie-Coldstone, Tarland.
14. Aboyne & Glentanar, Birse, Coull.
15. Kincardine O'Neil, Lumphanan.
16. Methlick, Tarves.
17. Cruden, Ellon, Foveran, Logie Buchan, Slains, Udny.
18. Drumoak, Echt, Peterculter, Skene.
19. Dyce, Fintray, Kinellar, Newhills.
20. Belhelvie, New Machar, Old Machar.

It was further decided (1 Aug 1919) that the School Boards in 2 or more parishes should be allocated as follows:
Ardallie, Area 1: parishes of Cruden, Ellon, Longside and Old Deer.
Kininmonth, Area 3: parishes of Crimond, Longside, Lonmay, Strichen and Old Deer.
New Byth, Area 4: parishes of Aberdour, King Edward and New Deer.
New Pitsligo, Area 2: parishes of Aberdour, New Deer, Strichen and Tyrie.
Savoch, Area 2: parishes of Ellon, New Deer, Old Deer and Tarves.
Ythanwells, Area 5: parishes of Forgue and Auchterless.

Under the Local Government Act (Scotland) 1929 the areas were rearranged to reflect the District Council areas (except that Deer is divided into Fraserburgh and Peterhead):
Aberdeen: Belhelvie, Drumoak, Dyce, Echt, Fintray, Kinellar, New Machar, Old Machar, Newhills, Peterculter, Skene.
Alford: Alford, Auchindoir & Kearn, Cluny, Glenbuchat, Keig, Kemnay, Kildrummy, Leochel Cushnie, Midmar, Monymusk, Strathdon, Tough, Towie, Tullynessle & Forbes.
Deeside: Aboyne & Glentanar, Birse, Coull, Crathie and Braemar, Glenmuick Tullich and Glengairn, Kincardine O'Neil, Logie-Coldstone, Lumphanan and Tarland.
Ellon: Cruden, Ellon, Foveran, Logie Buchan, Methlick, Slains, Tarves and Udny.
Fraserburgh: Aberdour, Fraserburgh (including Burgh), Lonmay, Pitsligo (including Rosehearty), Rathen, Strichen and Tyrie
Garioch: Bourtie, Chapel of Garioch, Culsalmond, Daviot, Insch, Inverurie, Keith-hall and Kinkell, Kintore, Leslie, Meldrum, Oyne, Premnay, Rayne.
Huntly: Cairnie, Clatt, Drumblade, Forgue, Gartly, Glass, Huntly, Kennethmont, Rhynie.
Peterhead: Crimond, Longside, New Deer, Old Deer, Peterhead (including Burgh) and St Fergus.
Turriff: Auchterless, Fyvie, King Edward, Monquhitter, Turriff
