| Administrative History | Aberdeenshire HER records that Gardenstown Harbour was built c.1720 onwards and reconstructed between 1868 and 1874.
In 1876 repair works ordered by Act of Parliament, necessitated by the age of the harbour, lack of space for herring boats (present capacity was 50 and Gamrie fishermen had up to 100 boats) or capacity as a safe harbour during bad weather. Would also enable increase in income to meet the harbour's debts. The proposed works would deepen and improve the existing harbour, add an additional harbour and reclaim land. Costs to be c. £14,000. This work was completed in 1879 and the capacity at the harbour increased to 90.
In 1911 the Gardenstown Harbour Trustees were incorporated by Act of Parliament: further extension work was carried out. |
