The club received its charter in March of 1929, making it the seventh such club in Britain and the third in Scotland, after Glasgow and Edinburgh. The Soroptimist International was founded with the intention of creating a platform to allow women to realise their potential. The first Soroptimist Club was founded in California in 1921.
