Administrative HistoryThe firm Gray & Gray was founded in 1913 in Rose Street, Peterhead, when Robert Gray (1856-1915) took his son George Martin Gray (1889-) into partnership. Robert Gray had come to Peterhead from Edinburgh as an assistant in the firm of Messrs A & W Boyd, and on A. Boyd's retirement formed the partnership Messrs Boyd & Gray. After W. Boyd retired in 1896 he carried on the business in his own name.

The firm dealt with a variety of legal matters. Robert Gray was from 1896 treasurer and law agent to the Peterhead Harbour Trustees. He also served as clerk, factor and law agent to the Community of Feuars , and treasurer and clerk to St Peter's Episcopal Church and School in Peterhead. He also served as Consul for Sweden, Norway, Denmark, France, Belgium and Russia, and his son succeeded him as Consul for Sweden and Denmark.

George Martin Gray was clerk to the Deer District Committee from 1912. He served as a Captain in the Gordon Highlanders during the First World War. He appears to have left the firm in the late 1930s/early 1049s, and became Town Clerk of Aberfeldy, Perthshire, in 1942.

Arthur David Troup, clerk to Deer District Council, started in the firm before 1925, and Malcolm McIntyre was also a partner by 1939. Troup remained to become senior partner by 1948, and was the sole partner by 1949. The firm is still in existence today (2019) in Queen Street, Peterhead, with a branch office in Ellon.
