Administrative HistoryThe firm of J. Sellar and Co. commenced business in 1875 at Forse, Lybster, Caithness. The partners were John Sellar senior, his brother-in-law John Cordiner, and his son James Sellar (1857-1940). Soon after this they acquired the fishing at Latheronwheel, Caithness.
Another firm was established in 1891: J. Sellar and Sons - the partners now being John Sellar senior, James Sellar, John Sellar Junior, and Colin Reid Sellar. This company originally ran two stations at Freswick and Aukergill.
In the course of time many other fishing stations were taken over including Gill's Bay, Mey, Keiss, Dunnet, Castlehill and the east coast of Sutherland from Helmsdale to Embo.
Later fishings were purchased for J. Sellar and Sons most notably those at Findhorn. Sellars also fished at Nairn, the Ugie and the Deveron.
