Aberdeen Harbour Board: Application from Alexander Grant, Warthill, for post of head meter Letter to James Riddel: "Sir, I saw by an advertisement in the Aberdeen Journal of last week a man wanted and obliged to act in the capacity of Head Meter and if one from the country were approved of I would be happy to engage in the above capacity. I have been for several years previous to this acting as a Farm Overseer and been accustomed to the keeping of farm books and accounts, can produce ample testimonials of character but declined sending any until I should know if you was appointed or not, age 32.
