Aberdeen Harbour Board: Correspondence from Clerk of Aberdeen Harbour Commissioners to Various Harbour Commissioners in reference to the system of pilotage at the ports of Sunderland, Newcastle on Tyne, Montrose & Berwick. [Document 1] Report on the current state of pilotage at the harbour, which it concludes is defective. And recommends that the role be taken away from fishermen and given instead to a professionalised class of seamen. It goes on to recommend that the committee grant commissioners to inspect the practices of other ports/harbours, namely Sunderland as to provide an example of best practice. It further requests that, if possible to procure an 'experienced and judicious'  pilot be procured for a month or so. So as to help instruct the harbour in improving its own practices.
