<dc:title>Stonehaven Burgh: Copy of the Fundamental Charter between the Earl Marischal and the feuars of Stonehaven</dc:title>
<dc:description>Granting the feuars the right to govern the town in return for certain services. Includes a list of feuars at the front.

This is a copy of the contract registered in the Kincardineshire Sheriff Court Books in 1626.
The whereabouts of the original 1624 charter is unknown: in 1728 statements were made to the Kincardineshire Sheriff Court by representatives of Earl Marischal and the feuars and the latter reported that the records for 1626 "were not in his custody being (as he was well informed) either burnt otherways destroyed or carried away by the English in the time of Oliver Cromwells usurpation” (from a 1894 extract of the 1728 statement in AS/Kstn/18/1).</dc:description>
