TitleAberdeen Harbour Board: Application of William Steel for a Wood Yard on the Inches
DescriptionIn two parts. 1. A letter to James Riddel from William Steel: "Sir, I am in want of a small piece of ground on the Inches (?) the already enclosures for the purpose of a wood yard and for which I shall pay rent in proportion to others as also confirm to the same rules and regulation. Would you have the goodness to lay the matter before your Committee at first meeting and inform me of the determination at your earliest convenience which will oblige, Sir, your most obedient servant, William Steel." 2. William Steel agreeing to take ground on Inches on the terms proposed dated 22nd May 1838: "Sir, I acknowledge to have taken from the Harbour Trustees of Aberdeen in terms of your letter to me of the 10th current that piece of ground or the Inches for a timber yard immediately south of the slate yard belonging to Mr. James Shanks, for which I am to pay at the rate of two shillings per foot of front to the quay per annum the frontage not to exceed seventy to eighty feet and to extend backwards in a line with said slate yard, subject always to my being removed from the ground on getting three months previous notice but that I am not to have liberty of putting up any other erection on said piece of ground further than a (?) for enclosing the same unless with the consent and approbation of the Harbour (?) Committee. I am Sir, your most obedient servant, William Steel."
