Description | Car licence plate is visible: RS 8042. Woman is wearing a hat and a coat with a fur collar, and has her back to the photographer: probably Mary McLeod Mitchell. The man is wearing an overcoat and cap - possibly driver or chauffeur. A small table is set up to the woman's right, with a basket at the side. Items have been set out on the table. A open suitcase has been placed in ferns behind them. The man appears to be holding a plate. A man wearing shorts is coming along the track behind the car, visible on the left edge of the plate. Trees and a hillside behind the track. Info from KitHead Trust about car reg: RS 8042 would date from late 1926 but the only information on the card is that it was voided in October 1934. Voiding could either mean that a vehicle was notified as scrapped/exported or simply that the annual census had revealed that it had been unlicensed for five years and was being written out of the system. The vehicle make is not given but only the class (Private, Goods, cycle etc). RS 8042 is given as Hackney so it was presumably a taxi or hire car. Other images in set: AHB/11/1/5/15, 25-26. |
