The Council remitted to a committee of the magistrates, the Dean of Guild and the Treasurer, to meet with the gentlemen of the County to discuss the proposal that the Town should fund the building of a new road from Love Lane to the River Don, and the building a new bridge over the River Don, on the line laid down by Mr Abercrombie, engineer. The committee were to submit the conditions, drawn up by the magistrates, on which the Town would fund the work as sole trustees of a toll established by Act of Parliament.
