Administrative HistorySeafield Cottage children's home was located on Viewfield Road, Aberdeen, and opened in 1951. Seafield was one of the family homes established by the Corporation following the Children's Act, which came into force on 5th July 1948. The idea behind these homes was to recreate the feeling of family life and to enable brothers and sisters to be kept together instead of being boarded-out separately. Foster parents were established at these homes to look after 8 or 9 children.
In 1982 Grampian Regional Council Social Work Committee recommended that 18 staff should be employed at Seafield Children’s Home. The capacity of the home in May 1985 was 12 residents. The following year the home’s capacity was the same although the availability of 2 additional emergency places was noted in the Minutes.
The Home closed in 1997. After its closure as a children’s home the premises became a home for the elderly.
