Administrative History | Aberdeen Town Council's Children's Department was established in 1948, under the terms of the Children's Act 1948. It was overseen by the Children's Committee and headed by the Children's Officer. It took over some of the roles and responsibilities of the Public Assistance Department and the Education Department.
In 1968 the Social Work (Scotland) Act saw the work of Children's Department transferred to new Social Work Departments, as recommended in the Government White Paper "Social Work and the Community" (1966), published in the wake of the Kilbrandon Report into Children and Young Persons in Scotland (1964). |
