This establishment had formerly been a Day Care Centre which opened in October 1967 under the administration of the Area Health Board (or the Health and Welfare Department), and subsequently the Social Work Department (in November 1969). The Centre operated in the extension of Pitfodels House. An Act of Parliament in 1974 brought the care of those with severe learning disabilities under the supervision of the Education Depratment, Pitfodels became the responsibility of Grampian Region Education Authority from July 1975. It was known as Pitfodels School by October 1977. In August 1999 Pitfodels and Kingsela Schools amalgamated to form Hazlewood School on the Kingslea site (see ED/GR6SP/Hazlewood). |
