TitleScottish North East Counties Constabulary: Chief Constable's annual reports
DescriptionAnnual report of the Chief Constable submitted to the Scottish North East Counties Constabulary Joint Police Board. The annual reports fall into two types: those submitted for the years 1949 to 1956, and those submitted for the years 1957 to 1974.
The reports submitted up to 1956 focus on a statistical analysis of crimes reported and cases disposed, including a breakdown of cases reported and proceeded in each of the police burghs. The reports also provide a summary of other police activities, including investigation of sudden deaths and road accidents, duties under the Diseases of Animals Acts, licences granted and use of police cells. A summary of the police establishment is also given.
The reports submitted from 1957 are more detailed and comprise written accounts, statistical tables and graphs. They cover two main areas: the organisation of the police service and a summary of incidents and offences. Details of the organisation include an overview of the police establishment, training, recruitment, transport, activities of specialist sections and police buildings. The annual reports for 1963 to 1974 also provide details of the force disposition: the administrative divisions of the Force and the names of those in charge in each sub-division.
The section on incidents and offences routinely covers crimes reported, disposal of cases, juvenile offenders and road traffic accidents. Detailed licensing statistics are given from 1962 to 1974, details of fatal road traffic accidents from 1961 to 1974 and of fatal fires and mountain rescue incidents from 1963 to 1974.
The reports for 1962 to 1974 are indexed.
