Description | Letter addressed to the Secretary of the Dock or Harbour Commissioners, Aberdeen: "Sir, the Parliamentary Trustees on the river Clyde and Harbour of Glasgow have at present under consideration the existing rates and duties now leviable by them at the Port of Glasgow with the view to a bill which they intend to introduce next session of Parliament; and they will be particularly obliged to you having the goodness to state for their information, 1. what is now the maximum rate or duty per ton, authorised to be levied at the Port of Aberdeen on sugar, cotton, grain, (?), iron and mahogany, distinguishing the rate, per (?) in respect of the ship or vessel conveying these commodities from the rate or duty, upon the commodities themselves. 2. the actual rate per (?) at present exacted upon the ship, and these commodties, respectively. Have the goodness to notice any (?) or custom in respect of the ship, or commodities before mentioned, eligible at your port, our and above the proper statutory rates or duties.
