Description | Letter addressed to James Riddel: "Sir, we are under the necessity of troubling you about the following matter; concerning the Patent Slip which we must say in the present instance is not according to the rules laid down for its management. On Thursday last we gave notice to Mr. Minto that the "Superior" of Peterhead, was coming up to be repaired, and requested him to enter said vessel for the next turn; the schooner "Earl Gray" of Inverness was at the top of the Slip at the time but we were told that she would be off in a week which she might have been with perfect ease; now what we complain of is that we see the ship preparing for another vessel although the "Superior" be laying waiting and the "Earl Gray" is not yet finished it will be an easy matter is this is allowed to keep her or any other vessel at the top of the Slip and by that means exclude a third party for any length of time, the vessel being brought up from Peterhead at considerable expense we think it very unfair and also imploite to allow any unnecessary detention to be given her and we take the liberty to request that the Superintendent adhere to the rules laid down for the management of the Slip. We are Sir, Yours respectfully, Alexander Hall & Co." |
