Description | Letter to Mr. Riddel: "Sir, having observed an advertisement in Saturday's Herald requiring a (?) Meters and the qualification and (?) I have no objection to fill the situation if agreeable. I have been employed by Messrs. Milne Cruden & Co for upwards of ten years Superintending the discharge of the coals etc and have of course a good knowledge of weighing and measures. My age is still lower than that required in the advertisement, it being only 33 years I can give unquestionable testimonials as to character and reference to other gentlemen such as A. Bannerman, M.P., William Reid Edgar, Belmont Street., and Mr. John Duncan, Schoolhill etc. I would feel greatly obliged to Mr. Riddel if he would let me know the manner of application, if there will be a written application and testimonial required for the Harbour Trustees meeting and if the candidate will require to be present etc, if there is printed or written regulations I would like a look of them for a few minutes. My boy will call for answer to this from Mr. Duncan's office about one o'clock, if you could find as much time as give me the necessary information I would feel greatly obliged to you, my troubling you in this way is only to be in preparation with the necessary mode of application. I remain yours respectfully, John Fraser." |
