DescriptionPrinted letter with letter head: "Dear Sir, I am desired by the Committee of Management of the Harbour Trustees, to inform you that, after careful examination of the several applications which had been lodged, and making the requisite enquiries, the Sub-Committee, relative to the appointment of a Resident Superintendent, have selected from the General List of Candidates the names of the following gentlemen, from among whom they would propose the election be made, viz.:, Mr. W.B. Bray, Welton, near Hull., Mr. Thomas Matthew, Harbour Works, Dundee., Mr. Joshuah Claringbull, Stone House, Devon and, Mr. James Abernethy, North Midland Railway. The Committee have invited these gentlemen to pay a visit to this city, that the Trustees generally may have an opportunity of seeing and conversing with them. Their applications (as well as those of all the candidates,) lie in the Harbour Office for examination. The Committee would wish you to consider the above list of names as confidential among the Trustees. I am farther directed to intimate to you that the election will take place on Wednesday the 2nd of September next. I remain dear Sir, yours truly, John Angus."
