TitleAberdeen Harbour Board: Application from John Taylor for post of Assistant to Pilot Master
DescriptionLetter addressed to the Harbour Trustees of Aberdeen: "Gentlemen, observing an advertisement in the Aberdeen Journal for an Assistant to the Captain Pilot at the lower quays I beg humbly to offer myself as a candidate for the situation. I have for a good many years past been in the command of different vessels belonging to this port and in the employment of various respectable ship-owners, and from them and others I have obtained the annexed testimonials of my character and ability for the office. Should I be fortunate enough to obtain the situation I trust I shall discharge the duties attached to it, to the full satisfaction of my employers and of the public. I am Gentlemen, your very obedient humble servant, John Taylor." On the next page is a reference signed by six different people: "We the subscribers hereby cerify that Mr. John Taylor, Shipmaster, Aberdeen, is a person of most respectable character, and of most active and industrious habits, and we (?) recommend him as in all respect, well calculated for filling the position of Assistant to the Captain Pilot at the lower quays Aberdeen."
