Description | Letter to the Harbour Trustees: "George Brands, late Pilot at Aberdeen most respectfully showeth that your petitioner having gone onboard of the Quebec (?) of this peace upon Sunday last in his usual avocation as Pilot, and continued there some considerable time, before the light was ousted on the pier and then I allowed five hours to expire after said light was out? and I considered that there would be plenty of depth of water to bring us in, and in consequence of which we proceeded but found after passing the bar that she struck, which was an unforesen circumstance and an unfortunate both for the vessel, the owners, and your Petitioner. But your Petitioner would hope that you would look over the unfortunate event, and reinstate your Petitioner in his former situation as Pilot, all and is confident that his character is such as will bear scrutiny having still tried to do his best to please his employers at all times. He humbly hopes therefore, that you will take his case under your considerations and grant him the privilege of Piloting in future, and your Petitioner shall do his best not to fall in the same error again, and I am Gentlemen, your most humble servant, George Brands." |
