Description | Originally stored in wooden box, labelled "Germany" on the exterior but showing a number of Baltic resorts. The SS "Calgaric" and the "Stella Polaris" are seen in the images, so Nicols may have been passengers on one of those vessels, or a third vessel undertaking a Baltic cruise. SS Calgaric was renamed Calgaric in 1927 by the White Star Line. White Start advertised a Northern Capitals and Baltic Resorts Cruise in 1930, 1931 and 1930 (visiting Oslo, Copenhagen, Danzig, Stockholm, Kiel and Hamburg). Calgaric was also chartered for a Baltic Cruise of Scouters and Guiders from 12 August to 29 August 1933. On board were the Baden-Powell family, and about 100 Scouters, 475 Guides and 80 non-Scouts and Guides. The itinerary was:- Southampton, Rotterdam (Netherlands), Kiel Canal, Gdynia (Poland), Klaipėda (Lithuania), Riga (Latvia), Tallinn (Estonia), Helsinki (Finland), Stockholm (Sweden), Oslo (Norway), Pentland Firth, Oban (Scotland) and ended at Liverpool (England). The Stella Polaris' "Capitals of the North" cruise ran between 1927 and 1938 visiting Oslo, Copenhaen, Visby, Stockholm, Helsingfors, Kronstadt, Leningrad, Reval (now Tallinn), Danzig (now Gdansk), the Kiel Canal and Hamburg.
