Description | Three men visible at bottom of dock, one on top of lock gate. All appear to be in smart dress, not working class. Crane visible on ground level. Box label suggests this is Block No. 7 dock gates, 1884. Appears very similar to MS 3595/AHB3055 and MS 3595/AHB0272 in the Special Collections Centre photograph holdings: which is titled "New lock gates being fitted to Victoria Dock entrance" and dated 1888. Description of this item: "New lock gates being fitted to Victoria Dock entrance, view shows the work being carried out within the cofferdam so the entire dock entrance sill is dry, workmen standing at the bottom of the dock adjacent to one of the gates, steam derrick crane, one gentleman standing on top of the new gate, working platform suspended from the top at one side, on the base of the dock sill some rods, bar, table and vice, some timber blocks, sledge hammer, shovels, inside wall of cofferdam showing heavy timber bracing.
