Rescue teams called in at 2am were only able to bring out six bodies. Red hot coal and poisonous fumes hampered their work, making it impossible to reach the casualties. Despite tons of boulders taken down in the pit-cage to form barriers underground, three members of the rescue team were killed while fighting to locate their colleagues. In all, 264 men lost their lives.];
