Administrative History | At a meeting of inhabitants of Laurencekirk 2 Feb 1865 resolved to use a £100 legacy to the village from Francis Gordon Mitchell Esq for a public Hall. A committee was appointed to raise the additional sums and oversee the project. A successful subscription campaign was launched which, together wiht the proceeds from various fund-raising events, realised over £1000. The building was constructed over the next year and was officially opened in 1866. A meeting of 17 Oct 1866 decided to call the new Hall the "St Laurence Hall". The Trust continued beyond the Hall's opening to maintain the fabric of the building and carry out improvements. The trust ceased 31 May 1900. |
