Administrative HistoryIn 1947 W Dobson Chapman & Partners, town planning consultants, Macclesfield, were commissioned to undertake an advisory plan for the City not covered by the District Joint Town Planning Scheme. The 1947 Town & Country Planning Act requires local authorities to a undertake survey of their area, prepare and revise Development Plan, and consider applications for planning permission and advertisement signs in context of Development Plan. Development Plans were to report on the survey and include a plan indicating how land within their district should be used. Dobson and Chapman's "Survey Report" and "Planning Proposals" were published in 1949.
The firm updated the 1925 set of Ordnance Survey maps for the City, prepared a survey report and formulated planning proposals. An abridged version of the two volume report was published as "Granite City: a plan for Aberdeen" in 1952, and the survey and proposals were exhibited in the Music Hall in 1951.
