Description | Communication of 3rd March 1800 giving notice that, according to the law and customs of the area that the solicitor of stamp duties or his deputies regularly prosecute unlicensed retailers of ale, beer or other exciseable liquors, and that it has come to the Shirrefs attention that a prosecution to this effect had been brought before Aberdeen magistrates at the instance of one Mr. William Cock, "Collector of excise."Shirrefs says this is not within remits of a collector of excise, and this letter is to advise the magistrate of this, and that they should dismiss the action. The last page of the document has a note signed by Mr Carnegie, stating "instruments taken in my hands in open court." |
