Administrative History | Dr Bell's School in Frederick Street was opened in 1835 and was taken over by Aberdeen School Board in 1881. The name of the school was changed to Frederick Street Public School in 1890.
A reconstruction of the school was completed in December 1884 at a cost of £6,000. This building was replaced by a new school in 1902. The new building accommodated 1096 pupils - 332 infants and 764 junior and senior pupils - but the restricted site forced the playground to be placed on the roof of the building. The Infant Department closed in 1923 and the school became an Intermediate School drawing pupils from King Street, Hanover Street, Commerce Street and York Street Schools. The school was re-named twice: from 1939 to 1954 it was known as Frederick Street Junior Secondary School; thereafter the school was called Frederick Street Secondary School. In August 1969 the Middle Secondary School pupils were transferred to Frederick Street Secondary School when the schools amalgamated as the Middle-Frederick Street School. The school closed in 1975 when pupils were transferred to Linksfield Academy. |
