Administrative History | Ross's School in Holburn Street opened on 14 October 1864. The school was taken over by Aberdeen School Board in 1889 and its name changed to Holburn Street School in 1890. The school closed temporarily in May 1908 while the school buildings underwent reconstruction. Pupils and staff moved to the newly-completed Ruthrieston School and classes were conducted there until February 1909. Infants who sought admission to Holburn Street School from August 1908 were accommodated temporarily in the church hall of St Nicholas Free Church in Union Grove; this school became known as Union Grove Hall School. Holburn Street School re- opened on 26 February 1909, re-admitting some pupils from Ruthrieston School and the pupils from Union Grove Hall School. The school closed on 3 July 1959 as a result of a reorganisation of the provision for primary education in the area. Pupils were transferred to Broomhill and Ferryhill Schools. |
