Description | Head Teachers Log Book detailing administration and progress at the school that was run by the Fasque Estate in Kincardineshire for children of families living on the Estate. Even though it was run through the Estate, and the Fettercairn School Board chose not to take it over in 1874, the School was obliged to keep a Log Book as it was in receipt of a Parliamentary Grant (this is noted in the 1874 School Board Directory). Most entries cover standard topics (e.g. issues affecting attendance such as weather and illness) but in places quite detailed on work covered and names of children being punished. Page 182 notes a visit by members of the Gladstone family in 1880. Rolls of the school are included from 1870-1875 - a list of the pupils named in these rolls is available on the archives website. Pages 138-140 for example note the names, ages, and dates of admission of children on the school roll in 1875. |
