TitlePeterhead Poor House: Register of Inmates, Medical Register and Visitors Report Book
DescriptionThere are three sections to this book, which covers the dates from 3 May 1861 to 20 November 1900.
- The first section is, The Register of Inmates, 3 May 1861 to 5 June 1900, containing, admission date, name, designation (cook, spinster, imbecile), religion, Parish chargeable, reason for removal (adopted, died) and date.
- The next section is the Medical Register, 5 May 1889 to 20 November 1900. On 20th November 1900 a note states, " I recommend that James Soutter should be supplied with a small quantity of whisky - say half a glass per diem."
- The third section of the volume contains Visitors Reports. These were usually weekly, remarking on 11 set questions, with room for additional remarks and then signed by the authorised visitors. Notes are made of the state of the room (clean & tidy) ands inmates (some are named and/or noted as being "troublesome"). On 30th May 1900 in answer to Question 1, "Is the House, with it's supplementary buildings, wards, yards and appurtences, clean and well ventilated?", the response is "like and Irishman's garret", but this may be because they've just moved to new premises at Kings Street!
