Administrative History | The First Police Reserve was set up early in 1939 on the recommendation of the Secretary of State. The Chief Constable rescruited forty members - mainly ex-policemen - to carry out ARP work and other emergency tasks in the event of war. Police War Reserve Force was established when the Second World War broke out.
