Administrative History | Elginshire Constabulary was formed in 1844 as a constabulary for the county of Elgin. Elgin Burgh's police was absorbed into the constabulary in 1893 (see POL/EB), after amalgamating in 1886/87 with the Forres and Nairn Burgh forces (both formed in 1859).
The constabulary became Morayshire Constabulary in 1890, and was amalgamated with the Nairnshire Constabulary (POL/N) in 1930 to form the amalgamated Moray and Nairn Constabulary.
It was succeeded by the amalgamated Scottish North East Counties Constabulary in 1949 (see POL/S). |
